Finance Finland has signed a cooperation agreement with Nordea, the Finnish Foundation for Share Promotion and Junior Achievement Finland, who coordinate the Finnish Finance Hero competition testing the financial skills of Finnish eighth grade pupils. Under this agreement, the competition will be part of the selection process for Finland’s representatives for the European Money Quiz finals from 2025 to 2027.
For several years now, Finance Finland has sent two eighth-graders to Brussels to represent Finland in the finals of the European Money Quiz, an annual Europe-wide contest in financial skills held in May. So far, Finland’s representatives have been selected based on the Zaldo online financial literacy materials: the eighth-grade class that got the top score in the Zaldo final test would enter the European Money Quiz finals. After a decision to discontinue updating the Zaldo materials in late 2024, a new selection process was required.
From now on, the Finance Hero competition will consist of three parts. The first part is a national selection open to all Finnish eighth grade classes. It is held during the Global Money Week in late March. The ten top-scoring classes from the selection then enter the second part, the national finals held in May.
In the final part, two pupils from the winning class of the national finals represent Finland in the European Money Quiz finals in late May, where pupils aged 13 to 15 from more than 30 countries go head to head with each other. The European Money Quiz is organised by the European Banking Federation (EBF). Finance Finland is a member of the EBF.
